2019 FIA European Pro Mod Championship, The Old 51 and Jimmy Ålund

Race #5, the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp Arena, Sweden.

Norrköping, Sweden, August 28, 2019 - It's a very tight schedule at this time of the season, the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals starts less than four days after the racing was concluded in Hockenheim.

As usual, Pro Mod had a solid turnout with all of 20 cars for a 16-car field but this time Ålund did not get off to a good start with the Magnus Petersson-owned Old 51 Chevrolet. Transmission problems and tire shake had Ålund as the #18 qualifier after day 1. Things shaped up nicely on day 2, three good runs took Ålund to third place going into Sunday's eliminations.

Eliminations, not a good day. In the eighth-finals, Ålund hits tire shake right at the hit and the event was over.

"This is rough" says Ålund, "the wheel speed didn't come up and the rest is history. Turned out we had an issue with the blower that had us down on power at the launch".

Ålund came to the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals in second place in the FIA Pro Mod Championship and leaves in third place. Ålund again, "third might sound OK but this is a hard core crowd to play with and it'll be a challenge to catch Michael Gullqvist who is currently in the points lead".

One race left in the championship, next up is the FIA/FIM European Finals held at the historic drag strip at Santa Pod in the UK. The action starts with qualifications for Pro Mod on Friday, September 7.
